The Monster-Ram improves airflow from the intercooler. It flows 72.7 lbs/min MAF (Mass Air Flow) with Bank’s High-Flow Heater and Billet Intake Plate compared to stock’s 38.6 lbs/min MAF.
Monster-Ram raises boost without increasing backpressure at the turbine. The result is a more responsive, power-efficient engine that offers even more headroom than stock for higher horsepower applications.
The complete system
Bank’s High-Flow Heater and Billet Intake Plate complete the perfect system. The High-Flow Heater allows for the removal of the restrictive stock heater grid plate. The new vertical coil-style heater provides the same functionality for cold starts as the stock grid heater but without obstructing airflow. Replacing the restrictive stock grid heater plate with the Banks High-Flow Intake Plate removes all obstructions and turbulence in the airflow path.
How it was designed
Utilizing the latest in CFD (computational fluid-dynamics), tested on the flow bench, the dyno, and on-road, Monster-Ram is a beast that only Banks could have unleashed. A direct-replacement aluminum casting, Monster-Ram is instant power, performance, and acceleration gratification. The factory inlet elbow is cramped and angular in order to accommodate the path of the stock No. 1 fuel line. Banks Engineers designed a new No. 1 fuel line, allowing the Monster-Ram to flow more air without obstruction.

Smooth mandrel-bent tubes deliver more air to your engine while reducing boost pressure loss resulting in quicker turbo spool and more power. Banks Boost Tubes are the largest charge air cooler pipes in the industry, measuring in at a full 3.5 inches. Every other competitive product on the market tops out at just 3.0 inches, and your factory pipes are only 2.5 inches with crushed bent corners and flimsy plastic components. By contrast, Banks Boost Tubes are made of high-quality aluminized steel for maximum strength and durability. With Banks Boost Tubes’ smooth bends, your turbo can spool quicker thanks to improved boost pressure retention for maximum horsepower.

The Boost Tubes work with the stock Duramax intake components by using proprietary high-strength 5-ply silicone hoses. Unique to the 2020+ model, a pair of billet aluminum cold-side adapters are also used for the intercooler connection and the throttle body. These are specially made for the airflow requirements of the L5P and feature a Venturi-like taper on their inside diameter to maintain boost pressure and volumetric flow.

Results in torque and power gains across the full operating rpm range, starting right off idle and marching to the shift point in each gear. Derringer is dyno calibrated to use multiple data inputs such as throttle position, rpm, vehicle speed, AFR, knock, coolant temperature, and EGT, just like your engines ECM. It actively and safely optimizes calibrations in real-time thanks to its OBD-II connectivity. No competitive tuner does that. Derringer has 6 levels, adjustable on-the-fly using the iDash. Level 6 produces best-in-class performance. Level 3 is designed for work use and has a great mid-range feel. When running Level 3 with a loaded truck and/or pulling a trailer, your on-ramp merging speeds and passing times are greatly improved. The electronics are enclosed in a compact housing which is easily concealed and communicates with other Banks devices such as our iDash DataMonster, iDash SuperGauge, and PedalMonster throttle booster. The Derringer connects in line with your trucks engine sensors. But unlike other tuners, it also connects to the vehicles OBD-II diagnostic bus. ActiveSafety health monitoring circuitry keeps an eye on the vehicle and the module itself. It checks its health 100 times a second. If it detects an issue, the Derringer instantly bypasses itself, sets a device diagnostic code, and seamlessly returns the truck to stock power. Plus, Derringers special coolant temp monitoring prevents power addition when the engine is too cold or overheated. The Derringer also auto-adjusts power if knock occurs due to bad fuel.
